Sydney was known for his extensive work on nuclear structure using nuclear reactions. He led the AGOR cyclotron project, was director of IPN Orsay and GANIL, deputy director of IN2P3, chairman of NuPECC and scientific director of ELI-NP, among many other endeavors.
Sydney worked in several laboratories during his career but always considered IPN Orsay (now part of IJCLab) as his home base. Therefore, IJCLab organizes a day of remembrance for Sydney on December 15 of this year from 9:30 to 17:00 at Orsay in the Irène Joliot-Curie amphitheater. The laboratory will celebrate his scientific achievements and managerial successes through presentations and short interventions of colleagues and collaborators.
