The Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded on Tuesday, October 6 to British researcher Roger Penrose, German Reinhard Genzel and American Andrea Ghez. Roger Penrose was awarded for having discovered "that the formation of a black hole [was] a strong prediction of the theory of general relativity", while Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez were awarded for "the discovery of an object compact supermassive in the center of our galaxy ”. Andrea Ghez is the fourth woman to win a Nobel Prize in physics. As a reminder, Marie Curie received this prize in 1903, her daughter Irène Joliot-Curie received the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1935 (like her mother who had received it in 1911).
