The varied composition of ultra-energetic cosmic rays

A new analysis based on 215,000 events collected at the Pierre Auger Observatory sheds new light on the origin and nature of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. Rather than a single-element scenario, it suggests the presence of multiple cores from the lightest to the heaviest. This is indicated by a study published in Physical Review Letters and co-authored by Piera Ghia and Olivier Deligny (Team APHE, Pôle A2C).
