The Fink project is winner of the 2023 Open Science Prize for Free Research Software

We are proud to announce that Fink has received the 2023 Open Science Prize for Free Research Software, awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

These prizes, presented on November 29, 2023, during the Open Science Prize ceremony, 2023 edition, reward projects and research teams working on the development and dissemination of free software, thus contributing to the construction of a common good of prime importance. It is the recognition of the production of free software as a contribution and a research result. They highlight exceptional or very promising achievements, which can inspire the scientific community and society as a whole.

There are 3 categories: "science and technology", "documentation" and "community". Fink wins the jury's favorite prize, which rewards an exemplary project combining several of these categories!

Initiated under the leadership of the IJCLab and LPC Clermont laboratories of the CNRS/IN2P3 in 2019, Fink is free software under the Apache 2.0 license. From its inception, Fink has continued to promote the values of free sky software as a solution to the technical challenges encountered in astronomy, as a necessary means to open up science, and as a strong vector of scientific success. Today, Fink brings together a community of 60 members in 14 countries, including several dozen contributors to its source code.
